The Lesson

Swept out like dust in a pile on the floor

So much between us unnoticed before

The time leaking helpless, days rolling unfold

The rushing, the busy, the tired, the old

Missing, the lasts slip by, never a sound

As taller and bolder you grow, taking ground

Gains bringing joy and pain in the same breath

Pride in the coming

Sad in what’s left

The lesson in stopping, in sitting, in still

In seeing, in slowing, in breathing the fill

For the ticking’s resounding, reminding my heart

The end’s always coming

Right from the start
